Vax Table Collection
Style is not only a trend. It also reflects people's state of mind at present, how they think and what they do. Especially when you walk into a tech or IT company, these people love science and only focus on the future instead of the past. VAX project was a side project when we were designing an IT company's new office project in Beijing. More and more new Chinese tech company is establishing their name in the world 500 fortune, such as tik-tok, DJI & etc. When we put 20th-century masterpieces in their reception and lobby, clients always thought that they were a bit too classic and irrelevant to their identity. So we come up with an idea what if we can inspire by technology such as Exoskeleton & Generative Design or Structural Expressionism? We can create a "de-humanized design language," pursuing a naturally formed structure and visual Aesthetics that gives the impossible feeling.
The typology of the table structure can change from V to A to X by turning the entire shape around. This coincidence also gave VAX a robot-sounding name. After struggling with the choice of lightweight and aesthetics, the whole body finally got a more satisfactory "dolphin Surface" touch. In the later mass production, it also achieved a very clever reduction of parts. Each table only needs two die-casting models to make a whole table, and there is no need to divide left or right since they are identical. This also reduces the overall development difficulty and cost. Eventually, the client is quite happy with the office, and this coffee table set shows who they are.
